NAPLES, Italy – The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) entered the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations Jan. 29, 2017 as part of a routine deployment in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe, our NATO allies, European and African partner nations, and our coalition partners.

Quote:

“Operating our aircraft carrier strike groups in the European and African theater once again shows the tremendous multi-mission capability of the U.S. Navy. With active Daesh elements in Syria, Iraq, and Libya, this part of the world continues to be strategically important. The Bush Carrier Strike Group provides ships and aircraft that will operate with our NATO allies and European and African partners.  Interoperability and training at the highest end of warfare gives us the ability to fight and win if deterrence fails.”

Commander, U.S. Sixth Fleet
