Honored guests included Mr. Joseph Mussomeli, U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia, Mr. Daniel Cep, Deputy Mayor of Slovenia, Mr. Josef Jerovsek, Deputy Chair National Security Council, Mr. Dejan Radunic, Advisor to Minister of Defense, Major General Dobran Bozic, Slovenian Chief of Defense, Brig. The visit consisted of a luncheon followed by a tour of the ship with the commanding officer of Roosevelt.

“It is both an honor and a privilege to host various members of the Slovenian Government,” said Cmdr. Jay Clark, Roosevelt’s commanding officer. “I am always very proud to share the culture and tradition of the U.S. Navy with partner countries and fellow mariners.“

Cmdr. Jason Reller, Roosevelt’s executive officer, echoed the Commanding Officer’s sentiment.

“This port visit provides us the opportunity to meet with the people of Koper and to experience the rich history and culture of Slovenia,” said Reller. “Additionally, visits such as this strengthen the bonds between the United States and partner countries as we work towards our mutual goals.”

Cmdr. Clark spoke very highly of the hospitality of the host nation.

“The Slovenians have been wonderful hosts for my ship and crew. This luncheon is just one small way for me to express my appreciation and gratitude.”
