USS Oscar Austin Arrives in Bergen, Norway

BERGEN, Norway -- The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) arrived in Bergen, Norway, Aug. 27, 2017, for a scheduled port visit and to refuel.


Oscar Austin is conducting a routine deployment supporting U.S. national security interests in Europe and increasing theater security cooperation and forward naval presence in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.


"Our arrival in Bergen will provide Oscar Austin Sailors the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Norway, while also allowing us to refuel the ship before continuing our deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. Port visits such as this are crucial to strengthening our relationships with NATO allies, and continuing our U.S. Naval presence around the globe.”

Oscar Austin recently visited Naval Station Rota, Spain, for a mid-deployment availability period.
Following the port visit to Bergen, Oscar Austin will continue its patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
