USS Porter Departs Odessa, Ukraine
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) departed Odessa, Ukraine, July 18, 2018, after a scheduled port visit following the ship’s participation in exercise Sea Breeze 2018.
Strengthening alliances during the port visit to Odessa demonstrates the shared commitment we have to promote security and stability within the region, while seeking opportunities to enhance our interoperability with our NATO allies and partners in the Black Sea.
While Porter was in Odessa, the ship participated in exercise Sea Breeze 2018. Sea Breeze is an annual multinational maritime exercise, with land, air and amphibious components, and is co-hosted by the United States and Ukraine to enhance interoperability and capabilities among participating forces.
"Visiting Odessa was a first for me and many of the Sailors aboard Porter, and the city was memorable and relaxing. Odessa was a welcome host and is filled with a diverse culture. Exercise Sea Breeze 2018 brought together sea and land components but also gave us a chance to interact face-to-face during the sports day and forge lines of cooperation and communication with the Ukrainian and participating nations. We thank Ukraine for the experience! ”
