
Operation Odyssey Dawn
Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn is commanded by Admiral Samuel J. Locklear, III, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, and is operating from the U.S. Sixth Fleet Flag ship, USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20). The mission of JTF Odyssey Dawn is to conduct military operations to protect the civilian population from attack or threat of attack, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973; to establish a no-fly zone to help prevent mass atrocities; and to enforce an arms embargo to prevent the flow of arms and armed mercenaries from being used against civilians.
