Operation Odyssey Dawn
Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn is commanded by Admiral Samuel J. Locklear, III, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, and is operating from the U.S. Sixth Fleet Flag ship, USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20). The mission of JTF Odyssey Dawn is to conduct military operations to protect the civilian population from attack or threat of attack, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973; to establish a no-fly zone to help prevent mass atrocities; and to enforce an arms embargo to prevent the flow of arms and armed mercenaries from being used against civilians.

110324-F-PF238-100 SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Illinois (March 24, 2011) – KC-135 pilot Lt. Col. Jim Pauling and 1st Lt. Mark Titus, 126th Air Refueling Wing, Illinois Air National Guard, prepare for takeoff in preparation for a deployment in support of Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn. The KC-135's will provide air-refueling support to coalition aircraft enforcing a no-fly zone over Libya.
