Command Master Chief Johannes J. Gonzalez
Command Master Chief Johannes J. Gonzalez was born and raised in Panama, Republic of Panama. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and realized his dream of joining the United States Military at the age of 24. He enlisted as a Fireman Recruit and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. After graduating basic training, he attended Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Electrical) class “A” school where he was an honor graduate.
Master Chief Gonzalez also graduated with honors from the Career Counselor course and the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 142, Khaki) and was the recipient of the John A. Power, Excellence in Communications Award and the Newport County Council, Navy League of the United States, Honor Graduate Award. He is also a graduate of the Command Master Chief Course (Class 83), the National Defense University Keystone Joint Command Senior Enlisted Leaders Course, and holds an associate degree from Central Texas College.
At sea Gonzalez served onboard the USS Kidd (DDG 993), USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), USS Vincennes (CG 49), USS Lake Erie (CG 70), and the USS Reuben James (FFG 57).
His shore duty assignments have been at NCTAMS PAC Hawaii, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Japan, U.S. Naval Base Guam, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command / U.S. FOURTH Fleet, and currently serving as Command Master Chief Commander, U.S. SIXTH Fleet.
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
